As a consumer, it is important that you know the latest information on the provider you choose for natural gas service, as well as your rights under the law in Georgia. By staying informed, you can protect yourself and have a better relationship with your service provider.
Consumer Rights and Protection
While you are expected to meet your obligations to your service provider in a timely manner, rules have been enacted to make sure utility service providers act in a reasonable manner when engaging their customers regarding collection activities (late fees, disconnections, etc.) if you are unable to do so. The Georgia Public Service Commission's Consumer Rights and Protection help Georgia residents protect themselves.
Senior Discounts
The Georgia Public Service Commission has established criteria for qualifying to receive a senior citizens discount for natural gas service. In addition, many natural gas marketers offer special senior discounts, regardless of income.
Gas Marketer Scorecard
The Georgia Public Service Commission issues a monthly Gas Marketer Scorecard that reflects the number of complaints and general questions about the marketers received in three categories: Billing, Service, and Deceptive Marketing.
Filing a Complaint
If contacting your current provider does not produce results, you can file a complaint with the Georgia Public Service Commission to resolve the issue.
Georgia Energy Assistance Program
The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) pays for some home heating and cooling costs for low-income eligible families particularly in emergencies.
