The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) has established the following criteria for qualifying to receive a senior citizens discount for natural gas service:
Customers with a total household income of $14,355 or less and are 65 years of age or older qualify to receive up to a $14.00 credit to their bill. The bill must be in the name of the senior who applies for the discount. Credit is applied to the Atlanta Gas Light Company base charge portion of the bill.
However, some natural gas marketers offer special senior discounts, regardless of income.
In addition to the PSC credit, GNG will lower the variable price by several cents per therm for qualified customers.
GasSouth offers senior citizens 65 and over a 2ยข discount off their Introductory Variable Rate plan. This Variable Rate Plan fluctuates on a monthly basis with market conditions. A monthly customer service fee (depending on credit score) applies. The Introductory Variable Rate plan is for new customers only.
SCANA Energy offers a discount for low-income seniors, as well as low monthly service fee.
